Houston Muralist, Artist Paints and Repairs Wall Murals and Art

Commercial artist and painter, Ray Gatica is an Airbrush artist in Houston and also provides mural and art repair.

Gatica specializes in murals and big, oversize architectural graphics including gym graphics. He has contracted with commercial painting companies, architects, interior designers, churches and private home owners.

Armed with the above experience and his airbrushing skills has qualified him for the art and mural repairing side of his business.

Along with creating and honing his artistic skills over the years, Gatica has repaired canvas painting, prints; and wall murals at Second Baptist Church.

At Second Baptist,(see samples) there were over 5000 square feet of airbrushed 3-dimensional props, art and murals in the children's floor. "It is my understanding that the murals and props there, were painted by an outfit out of Florida that does work for Walt Disney, Disney Land parks." says Gatica. The wacky designs are very interesting and unique. The ones here at the church were painted, shadowed and highlighted with the airbrush for a distinctive look and feel that - only the airbrush can provide.

Most of the art was painted using the airbrush to keep a soft feel throughout the floor. There were some large 2-D, colorful graphics made to look 3-D by shadowing and contouring with the airbrush.The style is known as wacky world art which is mostly distorted lamp poles, streets, trains, cars. Everything is distorted and out of perspective and very colorful.Other props were made out of wood and built in a cartoonish, animated style like you see in some of the cartoons on Saturday mornings.

The life-size props were created of fiber glass and some were also mechanical and talked. They provide a very fun atmosphere in the kids floor.

Well, as you can imagine being in a play room where kids will be jumping and playing on - the props will inevitably get used, broken and damaged. And the wall mural and graphics also get scratched, and worn in certain areas due to the heavy traffic in the hallways.This is where Gatica comes in with his airbrush skills.

Along with the painting skills Gatica also brings the ability to do minor repairs on the 3-D props and walls. After the repairs are done Gatica uses his color matching skills to spray the colors back to the props and reclears them to make them look new again.
